Welcome to Klockriketeatern! At the heart of our work is an interest in education, humanity, and the world around us. We aim to create bold performing arts that emerge through encounters with the audience and with one another.
Klockrike is a nomad theater, that wanders the world like the drifter in Harry Martinson’s The Road. Across borders and to new places. To pose questions to ourselves and to others.
About us
Klockriketeatern is a Swedish-speaking theater company based in Helsinki, Finland. Klockriketeatern operates without a permanent theater space, the world is our stage. We collaborate with other theatres, groups, and artists in Finland and internationally, in many languages. For us, collaboration is an ideological choice – a way of working for peace.
Our name comes from the first production: Harry Martinson’s The Road (Vägen till Klockrike) in 1991. Martinson received the Nobel Prize ‘for a body of work that catches the dewdrop and reflects the cosmos’. We see this as an excellent motto for an artistic theatre.
We have grown from an independent group to a respected actor in the cultural field, and as of 2022, we are a state-subsidised theatre. Klockriketeatern rf has been a registered association since 1995.
