ANIARA – REVISITED

Klockriketeatern & The Crossing present four new Aniara videos

Klockriketeatern celebrates our 30th anniversary in 2022, as well as our first year as a government funded (VOS) theater!

To kickstart the celebrations we want to take you on a journey into outer space – and look back at our biggest production ever: Aniara: fragments of time and space.

Together with our partner, the chamber choir The Crossing, we present four brand new videos: a look back at the whole production, as well as three full movements from the piece, accompanied by blog texts by the artistic team opening up the meaning behind each movement.

Aniara is based on Nobel laureate Harry Martinson's cosmic tale about humanity, refugees from a planet they have distroyed. Despite it's dystopic themes, Aniara is a breathtakingly beautiful, artistically ambitious multi artistic piece of choral theater.

And despite the – once angain – dark times for performing arts in our country, we want to bring hope and remind us all of the healing power of art!

Aniara was produced as a co-produciton between Klockriketeatern and one of the best chamber choirs in the world, The Crossing and conductor Donald Nally from the USA, together with composer Robert Maggio. The libretto and stage direction is by Klockriketeatern's artistic director Dan Henriksson.

The world premiere of Aniara took place in Philadelphia in June of 2019 and was the first Finnish theater premiere in the USA. It recieved outstanding reviews both from the audience and the critics. In July Aniara was performed at the international choir festival Koorbiennale in the Netherlands. Later the same year Aniara premiered in Finland at the National Opera where all the performances were sold out. In 2020 Klockriketeatern and the Finnish chamber choir Key Ensemble performed a concert version of the piece: Songs from Aniara, in Helsinki. And who knows, maybe we get to experience Aniara LIVE in Helsinki again some day!
